About Us

Peace Lutheran Church in Bermuda is part of the Metropolitan Washington D.C. Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA).  It was established by the American Lutheran Church in 1964 at the request of Mr Charles Pearman-Wilson, the Honorary German Consul at that time.  The church was built during the days of the U. S. Military bases in Bermuda and had a large congregation of military personnel at one time.  Even then, the church was always community minded.  For many years it was a meeting place for “social service” groups such as Age Concern and the Red Cross, where its position near the hospital made it an ideal spot for the former Disaster Relief Center.  Today, many community groups continue to use the church hall for their activities.

Peace celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2004. A number of events marked the celebration of this anniversary and the presence of Bishop Theodore Schneider, his wife and a large group from the Washington Synod, was especially meaningful for the congregation. Bishop Schneider preached at the Service of Celebration to a church filled with members and friends.  It is the goal of this small, family based, Lutheran Church to continue to serve God in Bermuda for many years to come.

Former pastors who have served at Peace Lutheran Church were:

The Rev. Walter G. Hed1970-1976
